WHO Collaborating Centre

The World Health Organization (WHO), as an organ of the United Nations (UN), is responsible for improving health standards and social well-being in mankind. To accomplish this goal, WHO selects, names and finances Collaborating Centres in its member states, in consultation with the responsible ministries of the state in which a centre is located. The centres are usually research institute- or university-integrated, whose activities in research, as service providers and in teaching are normally an integral part of the centres.

These areas of work are:

 •  epidemiological monitoring of infectious diseases
 •  standardization in public health
 •  support in developing national health care systems

INSTAND e.V. supports the WHO with the following 4-year plan:

1. Organizing further education courses in quality management, laboratory safety, and quality assurance

2. Developing a WHO document for Laboratory Screening and Monitoring of Diabetes Mellitus

3. Participation in the activities of the WHO Working Group on Anaemia

6.  Continuation and broadening of international interlaboratory comparisons for viral immunology in developing countries, in collaboration with the WHO.

7.  Collaborating with WHO in establishing programs for quality assurance in overseeing viral infection.
